Contract Law & Business Relationships

August 26-27, 2003

Macon, Georgia – Holiday Inn Macon West

Sponsored by PRÉCEDA Education & Training

In today’s forestry environment, contracts form the basis for most of our activities, as well as most of our business relationships.  Often, however, these contracts appear to be written by lawyers for lawyers in a language known and understood only by them.  Unfortunately, a lack of understanding of contracts or relationships created by those contracts can result in unwanted obligations, unnecessary conflicts, and unintended consequences, any of which can result in lost revenue or increased liability.

Purpose:

Contract Law & Business Relationships is designed to be a primer on this broad area of our legal system.  It will provide you with a basic working knowledge of the basis for contracts, the different types of contracts, and language used in those contracts.  The instructor will also discuss various forms of business relationships, especially independent contractor relationships, including how contracts govern those relationships.

Designed for:

Foresters, forest technicians, loggers, wildlife biologists, landowners, and others who enter into a contract to buy or sell timber, harvest timber, site prepare and plant trees, burn, paint boundary lines, or any other land management activity.  This program will serve as an introduction for individuals new to the practice of forestry or forest management, as well as a refresher for those with many years of experience under their belt.
