Balancing Wood, Water, & Wildlife: Today’s Intensive Forest Management

October 21, 2003

Jackson, Mississippi – Cabot Lodge Millsaps

Sponsored by PRÉCEDA Education & Training

Sustainable forestry by definition requires that we protect all of the resources of the forest during our timber management activities.  As a result, intensive timber management must be balanced with the protection of water quality, wildlife and wildlife habitat, and other resources of our southern forest.

Purpose:

Balancing Wood, Water, & Wildlife examines what we currently know regarding the impacts of intensive forest management practices, provides suggestions for minimizing negative impacts, and discusses techniques that can be used to integrate timber management with protection of wildlife, water quality, and other forest resources.  Discussions will include impacts of intensive forest management on biodiversity, wildlife, water quality, and visual quality.

Designed for:

Foresters, forest technicians, landowners, and others that are involved in planning or implementing intensive forest management practices.  This program will also be useful to staff foresters and other support personnel with responsibility for some phase of intensive management program.
